Lana del Rey in a Modern Love Story
Lana del Rey takes us to the future in the third video of her newest album Lust for Life. The video of “White Mustang” is a simplistic beauty that tells the story of a romance that’s doomed from the start. Lana’s body language and the futuristic setting of the video are the manifestations of the songs major themes. Throughout the video, you see Lana get ignored by this musician lover while trying to get his attention in various places. Lana’s body language of a typical broody girl (that she usually plays) shows her longing for attention from her lover. What she wants is a future with him that is similar to the past, which is indicative of the setting. The video is shot to seem grainy and old fashion and this partially contributes to this longing for the past. The largest contributor to this aesthetic is the namesake of the song, a retro white mustang.
