Watch Bjork’s Mesmerizing New Video For “The Gate”
Bjork is truly a human living in 3017. Her career consists of a string of unique acts in which she constantly reinvents herself and pushes the line of what is music a little bit further every time. This video for the lead single from her upcoming album, “The Gate”, further entrenched in my mind how much of an artistic wonder Bjork is.
Bjork is no stranger to jaw-dropping music videos but this one feels like CGI has finally caught up to her vision. The video depicts bork holding some odd geometric object that one can assume is love (from the lyrics) and passing it back and forth between another being. This action is very cinematic and the transitions between passing remind me of a lot of the X-Men intros. The song itself is a chilling tale about love and healing a broken heart. The instrumentation is as experimental as you would expect from a Bjork song but almost minimal in nature. The strings and the haunting beats are far in the background for a majority of the song while Bjork’s voice commands our attention.
The gown that she wears during the video was custom made by Gucci and took approximately 550 hours to make.
Bjork has nothing left to prove but renders me speechless constantly with her creativity and cultural capital. Hopefully, the album will contain more of the same.
